CEC compliant power supplies
Figures from the Energy Saving Trust on standby power use in the UK home are astonishing:
- Stereos on standby cost £290m
and produce 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 - VCRs and DVD cost £194m
and produce 1.06 million tonnes of CO2 - TVs on standby cost £88m
and produce 480,000 tonnes of CO2
In the UK alone, our equipment on standby produces a total of 3.1 million tonnes of CO2.
PowerPax now offer a comprehensive range of ‘green’ power supplies which meet California Energy Commission (CEC) regulations that require the power used in stand-by operation to be below a set level.
The standards apply to single-voltage external AC-to-DC or AC-to-AC power supplies, and among the specifications require a minimum efficiency and maximum standby power when unloaded. The efficiency level is calculated based on power levels. Maximum energy consumption in standby no-load mode must be 0.5W if the output is less than 10W and 0.75W if the output is between 10W and 250W.
The CEC compliant switch mode power supplies offered by PowerPax include 18 watt plug top and desk top power supplies as well as 30, 40, 50, 65, 90 and 150 watt desk top switch mode power supplies, and all meet or exceed the requirements.
The low standby power CEC power supplies are very competitively priced and cost only around 5% more than the standard range of PowerPax power supplies.
As an example, the 12vdc 5 amp PSU (65 watt) PTD-1205P CEC compliant power supply has no load power consumption of less than 0.5 watts and efficiency is 85%. Dimensions are 115 x 53 x 37mm. MTBF is 50,000 hrs min at 25 degrees C full load. The units have short circuit & over voltage protection. Input voltage is wide range 90 to 264vac 47/63Hz via a choice of IEC320 input connector including C6, C8 or C14 types
